The longer I live, the more I see that all is one and this blog is a reflection of feelings and thoughts upon that reality

ratio of forgiveness…part 2
If confession really is good for the soul, then it may be worthwhile for the Catholic Church to consider the following respectful suggestion:
When suppliants enter the booth during the next 365 days, it is for the purpose of hearing the priest's confession!
Perhaps that may help the 'new Pope's drive' for forgiveness to be more effective.

the ratio of forgiveness
As reprehensible as it is, the fact remains that human beings can and do fall prey to all manner of harmful and even criminal behaviour. That is a fact of being human.
In the case of priests who have abused children it would not be unreasonable to think that the principles of their faith could and should have provided them with the moral strength to resist. In respect of forgiveness it is worth noting that Jesus himself stated that it were better for them that a millstone be fastened around their neck and they be cast into the sea. On the face of it, that doesn't sound like a very forgiving statement. However, it may well be that some victim have such amazing capacities of lovingness that they can – and do – find it in their hearts to forgive human weakness.
It is interesting, however, that in his plea for forgiveness the present Pope refers only to the abusers.
By far the worst aspect of these ongoing scandals is that the Church was complicit, turned a blind eye, tried to protect the institution. Here is by far the greater 'sin'. For this is not about uncontrolled human lust .
This is about supposedly ethical, moral and religious men of 'high standing' victimising the victims even more. The abusive priests assaulted the body. The institution assaulted the minds, emotions and spirits of the victims.
There is a direct connection between forgiveness and repentance. It is tangible. It transcends mere words and is to be found in actions.

No defence…
It is not a defence to claim that other areas of society also sexually abuse children.
It is not a defence to claim transparency that only occurred AFTER repeated scandals were hitting the headlines and coming to the courts. The words 'transparency and responsibility' may as well have come from a latin mass in the Middle Ages for all their meaning in today's world!
Sir, you do the Catholic Church and the Christian Faith no service with these 'escapist illusions' in connection with the appalling and horrendous history of the Church in the last 50 years with reference to this subject.
The reality is that whatever misguided efforts the Catholic Church actually performed – and for whatever reason – that institution failed miserably in accepting Christ's words about millstones, stumbling blocks and children. The words quoted below (from a BBC article) do not heal these failures, they merely
compound them

Please explain…
As a former preacher myself, I really have very considerable difficulty in understanding:
1. Why the Catholic hierarchy does not seem to have got the message about child abuse and abusers.
Is it not yet understood that the present lukewarm PR efforts to deal with this issue are destroying the church – from inside?
What does it take for the church to be seen to act decisively and conclusively on this matter?
